CAD Mechanical Designer

For over 28 years, The Music People! (TMP) has been a highly respected importer and original equipment supplier of musical accessories for the music retail industry. We are a small company of less than 40 employees; however, we continue to grow and possess great potential. Our current projects give us entry to mass merchandisers, music stores, and sounds contractors.

General Position Summary & Responsibilities:

New product development is a key growth initiative for The Music People and we are currently looking for a talented Designer with a minimum of 3 years experience in new product development. The successful candidate will bring a self-motivated, winning attitude to create relevant and functional new products throughout every phase of the design process including manufacturing. You will work closely with all facets of the TMP team along with our Chinese manufacturers to design products that meet the project’s scope.

In addition to the above summary this position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Gather information from customers, sales staff and company owners to present a working concept.
  • Ensure products meet all cost, quality, and performance objectives including reverse engineering.
  • Create functional designs that are void of patent infringement.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years equivalent mechanical design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Vault, or equivalent solid modeling and storage software is required.
  • Analytical, multi-tasking, problem-solving, logical thinking skills with a keen ability to make quality recommendations in both meeting settings and during collaborative efforts.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing practices and procedures for metal and plastic molded parts.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook and Access) is required.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop is a plus.
  • Experience in the music industry is a plus.
